PINet for PI 3

The PINet for PI 3 CBT is now available for those system managers who maintain an OpenVMS based interface node (also known as a "PINet node") on a VAX or AXP platform. It includes how to install and then configure the VMS based interface node, the differences between VMS based interface nodes and NT and Unix based interface nodes, and how to use utilities to check on the status of the interface node.

The CBT consists of 3 hours of voice and video demonstrations. The class is a self-study course delivered on CD-ROM as a series of screen videos with narration accompanied by a workbook. The tutorials use screen video and voice playback to deliver software demonstrations and instructor lectures.

The topics are laid out in an easy to navigate menu system that provides quick access to any topic. This means that you have the option of viewing the entire course from beginning to end, selecting only certain lessons at convenient times, or returning to the course at a later date for a quick refresher.  Each video is designed to be a few minutes long, so you can drill down to the information you need without
sitting through a lot of information you don't.

Here is a list of the topics included in the CBT:

What is a PI System?
VMS Tutorial (optional)
Distributed PI – The PINet node
Post-VMSinstal steps.
Typical Interface Install

A menu lists each topic and how long it takes to complete.

The PINet for PI 3 CBT is a series of short screen demonstrations with voice narration. These narrations have been placed in a web browser interface.  No installation procedure is required to run the videos from the web menu, although you can choose to automatically add a shortcut to the main menu to your desktop.  The user can pause, fast-forward, and rewind the screen video clips.

Users work through the tutorials by first finding a feature on the main menu that they are interested in. This link opens up a second window with details of each video, including its length in minutes and seconds.  If the user has access to a PINet interface node, he can easily switch between applications to practice what was demonstrated.

We estimate it would take a user 1day to go through all the material, including doing the exercises that are demonstrated. There is a total of 3 hours of video with voice narration.

Videos demonstrate how install and configure a PINet interface node.
