Classes and Scheduling
When does class start? How long is the training day?
All OSIsoft Training classes begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. in the appropriate local time zone. Although some days may finish earlier, expect the training day to end around 4:30 p.m. The actual length of the class is more determined by the class participation. If there is a lot of interaction and discussion the class may run longer.
Special Notes:
- In the Frankfurt office the start time on the first day is always 9:00 a.m. The remaining days are the normal 8:30 am.
- The PI Application Development class begins at 8:00 am.
During the day the class will take short breaks and a one hour break is taken each day for lunch.
When does class end on the last day? What if I have to leave early?
Most of the OSIsoft courses have a small period of time designed into the last day to give the instructor a certain level of flexibility. This means that the final day of class can end in a variety of ways. Sometimes instructors will use this time to address topics requested during the week that were not part of the structured course but can be important to a specific customer. The time can also be used to go over topics or exercises a second time for clarity.
If there are no additional issues or questions the student can elect to end the final day early, normally in mid-afternoon. We try to not present the more "essential" information on the last day in case travel arrangements force a customer to leave early.
What do I need to bring to class?
We provide everything you will need for the instruction - a capable computer, instruction materials, even supplies for note-taking and some snacks. In our training center and most regional training sites student computers also have internet capability so that you can check your web-based email from the classroom. You may bring your notebook computer and/or cellular phone, but please do not distract others with your computer and please do not talk on the mobile phone in the classroom. At OSIsoft and in our training classes you will be comfortable in the most casual office/business clothing. Jeans, tennis shoes, t-shirts are fine.
The class I want to register for is not on the schedule anymore. What happened?
The class was cancelled. Classes are most often cancelled due to low enrollment. Classes are evaluated a little more than two weeks before the start date to see if the enrollment is at the required level.
How do I know if I have been successfully registered in the class I want to attend?
Upon completion of the registration or cancellation process you should receive an e-mail notification from us. If you have not received a notification email, contact
training@osisoft.com immediately. You may have to ask your IT department not to block emails from our domain.
I sent in a Purchase Order (PO) for a course. Am I registered?
No you are not! Each person who wants to take the course must register on the web site. Sending in the PO will not register a person for a seat in the class!
How do OSISoft classes qualify for Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?
College and recognized "continuing education" courses virtually always qualify. Correspondence, televised, videotaped, or web-delivered courses may qualify. Attending (or presenting) professional seminars or workshops, or making presentations at professional or technical conferences may also qualify. OSIsoft training is not an accredited program. Therefore, classroom instruction may or may not apply to a person’s Continuing Education Credit requirement. Please consult your licensing entity to determine whether OSIsoft classroom instruction qualifies for Continuing Education Credits.
Each class description page contains the entry, "This class provides xx classroom hours of instruction." We use 6.5 hours per day of instruction.
Software and Materials
I lost my training books. How can I replace them? How can I get new versions?
All of the latest training materials used in class are made available on the web through the
Technical Support web site (registration will be required). Customers are free to use these documents to refresh their own memory or to train other individuals in their organization. Persons using our training materials are prohibited from charging a fee (beyond printing and distribution costs) for any documents downloaded from our web site.
Can we use OSIsoft Training materials in our own plant?
OSIsoft encourages customers and partners to provide as much training as they can to PI users. This can mean sending people to OSIsoft Training Centers or providing training in-house. If a customer is providing training in-house we encourage them to use OSIsoft Training materials. The materials can be rebranded, cut, reorganized, or whatevfer it takes to make the materials most usable for the customer. The only prohibition we attach to using our training materials is they not be resold (excluding printing costs). All of the latest training materials used in class are made available on the web through the
Technical Support web site (registration will be required).
How do I order/upgrade a Computer Based Training (CBT) course on CD-ROM?
Can I get upgrades for my software when I attend class?
If you are attending class in San Leandro only, we will be happy to provide you with any new versions of licensed software that are allowed under your service agreement. Please contact your salesperson or
orders@osisoft.com before you attend and we will have the materials ready. Please note this service can only be offered to customers within the United States - software cannot be carried out of the country.
Travel Issues
What if I need an invitation letter for my Visa?
Please register for your class, and use the Registration Confirmation that you get as an invitation letter. The Registration Confirmation will include the information you need for a visa - this includes but not limited to name, address, and the date and name of the course(s).
When can I make travel arrangements?
Courses that do not make the threshold for enrollment have the possibility of being cancelled. We reserve the right to cancel a course up to 10 days before the start date of that course. We recommend that customers do not make non-refundable travel arrangements before that time for classes that have not met the enrollment threshold. If you have a question on if that has been met please contact
training@osisoft.com and we will tell you if the enrollment threshold has been met.

I did the currency conversion and it looks like the same classes have different prices based upon their country. Why are the prices diffferent for the same class?
The base prices for our courses is virtually the same across countries, with slight variations due to floating exchange rates. We do not price them differently. However, certain locations and/or countries have taxes that only apply to those locations. For example, in Canada we must collect the GST and for this reason it appears the course costs more. We review our courses each year in light of fluctuating exchange rates and adjust accordingly.
